Progress in strain monitoring of tapestries

چکیده
Tapestries are an important feature of many historic house and museum collections. They are often displayed on walls as originally intended, either hanging from the top edge or attached around all four edges. Textile conservators are experienced in visually assessing textiles for evidence of damage. Condition assessment by visual inspection is now routine (Lennard 2006). However, such visual inspection does not allow quantification of the strain imposed by the textile’s own weight. Tapestries, like other textiles, experience deformation under load which is presumed to be a significant factor in their deterioration. Although there has been some interesting work (Bilson et al. 1997), this aspect of textile conservation has not been much investigated. The monitoring of deformation under a constant load is common in engineering, where it is quantified in terms of an engineering metric known as mechanical strain. Applying strain-based techniques to the monitoring of damage caused by hanging tapestries would enable areas of degradation to be identified before it is apparent that damage is occurring, i.e., before it is visible to the naked eye. The research programme seeks to answer the following questions:

The progress mechanism of track geometrical irregularity focusing on hanging sleepers
This topic is very traditional and basically has been concerned for a long time. A lot of sophisticated vehicle/track interaction model and track dynamic deterioration model have been developed so far. The author also developed a track settlement progress model comprising a vehicle/track interaction model and a track settlement law. Hanging sleepers are usually caused more or less by the dyn...

In this paper, two-dimensional deformation analysis of the Gotvand-Olya dam is done using daily, monthly, seasonal and annual displacement vectors derived from permanent observations of the dam geodetic monitoring network. The strain tensor and its invariant parameters like dilatation and maximum shear are computed as well. Nonlinear finite element interpolation based on C1 Cubic Bezier int...
متن کاملMonitoring virus harvesting time in embryonated chicken eggs inoculated with avian influenza H9N2 vaccine strain
Knowledge of virus and replication kinetic is one of the most important issues in the vaccine production. The present study aimed to evaluate the best harvesting time of H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) vaccine strain inoculated in specific pathogen free (SPF) embryonated chicken eggs (ECE)s. For this purpose, 10-5 dilution of AIV (A/Chicken/Iran/99/H9N2) was inoculated into 336, 11-day old ECE...
متن کاملMaking Glue: Public Authoring in Urban Tapestries
Urban Tapestries (UT) is a spatial annotation system allowing participants to contribute text, images, video and audio that are geo-tagged and positioned over a graphical street map of London; but even more than this it is about describing relationships to people, places and things. This ‘experimental software platform for knowledge mapping and sharing’ [1] exists within the Social Tapestries (...

Background. In order to minimize overtraining, a reliable method is required to analyze training loads. Objectives. The objective of this study was to see if session Rate of Perceived Exertion (sRPE) is a valuable tool for tracking changes in perceived training load and strain among Malaysia rugby 15-a-side players during preparation for a significant game. Methods. Twenty-eight (n=28) elite ...
